Investor Update

Since our last update in June, the MezLight team has made a lot of progress. Our new and improved design will appeal to more customers, our online and social media presence has grown and our momentum is continuing to grow as we approach our product launch.

Product Development

Using the feedback we received from surgeons at June’s ATC event in Boston, the team has redesigned the MezLight to be reusable for up to 10 procedures and updated the connection mechanism that joins the light to the power post.

This meant redesigning the LIGHT so that it could withstand a minimum of 10 cycles of manual decontamination and autoclave sterilization. Gratefully we received the advice of several reprocessing professionals at UW hospital that enabled us to confirm the requirements and expectations for these critical activities.

Creating prototypes and sterilizing them in an autoclave has confirmed that our LIGHT will indeed survive the extreme environmental requirements of hospital sterilization.

On the manufacturing front we have received 4 quotes from US based contract manufacturers and are in the process of down selecting to 2 for final quotation and negotiation.

Onward!

ACS Clinical Congress - 2019

The American College of Surgeons is holding their annual Clinical Congress in San Francisco during the last week of October. And MezLight will be there! On the heals of our successful debut at the American Transplant Congress in June, we're anxious to unveil the features included on our latest version of the MezLight.

Over 8,000 surgeons will be attending the conference, so we expect to generate a lot of buzz and demand for the MezLight.

To provide surgeons with a more realistic context in which to experience MezLight, we are replacing “Manny” with a surgical dummy (name is TBD) complete with open chest / abdominal cavity and simulated internal organs. As an added bonus, Thompson Surgical Instruments has agreed to provide MezLight with a retractor setup, adding realism to our product experience in the booth. This may also open the door for a marketing partnership with Thompson, a leader in the surgical instruments industry.

Marketing

The marketing team has continued to establish MezLight’s digital presence, with a focus on SEO and social media. We are seeing improved SEO results driving website traffic, as well as increased engagement with our LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. If you're not following us already, now is a great time to start!

At ACS we will be formally announcing that the MezLight LIGHT itself will be reusable for up to 10 procedures using autoclave sterilization. We are purposefully keeping this quiet until the conference to protect our first to market advantage.

Dear Investors,

I’m a month into my role as CEO of MezLight. Allow me to briefly share the updates with you.

1. The team from Canada had always been a temporary team. We needed help to get us to a particular place until I could take over as CEO, and we had written our contracts in anticipation for this change.

2. By having our team consolidated in Madison we are able to meet more regularly in person, make decisions faster and be more nimble in general to drive MezLight through the 2nd stage of the company.

3. Our product design freeze is happening next week. We learned so much from our soft launch in June and did not fully anticipate the breadth of design changes needed but we’re grateful we could evolve the design to truly be the best MezLight to bring to market.

4. We asked 6 contract manufacturers to respond to our RFQ and have had many ongoing phone conversations with each. We will narrow it to 2 by mid-September; then schedule in person visits to determine our partner. We are pleased by the initial pricing and depth of detail provided so far.

5. We held back on doing safety and quality testing until we have the final product (first tooled and assembled parts) to be tested. We originally had planned to conduct testing in parallel of design changes to save time but once we found out we could save money and do it more efficiently with our chosen manufacturer using our final product we decided to wait. This does not effect our timing for launch.

These are the 5 areas where I focus my time. I’ve limited my vcpi CEO job responsibilities to be ready for Mezlight. We all look forward to the ACS trade show October 31 to have our official launch. Our goal is to manufacture 1,000 units in 2019 to then send to our top surgeons for trial and get immediate feedback to help our marketing.

While we are moving quickly to launch MezLight, we are also taking the time to ensure the effectiveness and safety of the solution. We have been impressed that the health care providers that have guided us so far have emphasized sustainability over disposability; We can all hope this may be the sign of our health care industry thinking and acting differently for the benefit of all. We continue to be grateful for the confidence and trust you have placed in us and I look forward to sharing more significant updates soon. Feel free at any time to call me at 608-712-1165 if you have any questions.

With gratitude,
Karen Christianson
